Garston Ladies 0:7 QPR Ladies
The first-team started their pre-season campaign with a bang with a comprehensive victory over Garston Ladies.
It couldn’t have gone any more perfectly for us. We played really well in both halves, had lots of new players and trialists on show too and showed that we had a bit of bite about our play when needed.
This started out as a bog standard friendly and we took control early doors and were two goals to the good midway through the first half having held bags of possession.
But by the end it turned into a very good work out for us, with cob webs getting cleared out of the system and a few meaty challenges and tackles on display that led to us raising our game further and really finishing them off in the second-half.
We responded well to the aggressive approach by some of the Garston players late on by continuing to play our football and answering by putting the ball in the back of the net, which is all you can ask for and we showed good focus and patience in that sense.
I thought the defence used the ball well and our experience there told and allowed us to build a platform to attack. Two trialists got on the score sheet to begin with and we added further strikes from Amy Murphy, Simone Dwyer, Vicky James and Cherelle Albert who bagged a brace. Like the Reserves who played earlier in the day, some of the goals scored were superb.
If I cast my mind back to the start of pre-season last season, this was a much more complete performance of controlled and assured football and we already look fitter at this point than back then and we’ll need to keep this pace going to ensure we have a good season.
To think that we didn’t have our strongest or most settled side out there as well can only mean that we’re going to get better.
