Garston Ladies Reserves 0:5 QPR Ladies Reserves

Pre-season training for the ladies started two weeks ago and it took that to get the taste for football back in my mouth again. One friendly later and I can’t wait for the real thing to get going again.

It’s been a busy summer for us and we’ve held a couple of trials and taken a look at a lot of players in that time. We mixed up today’s selection by including many of the trialists in the squad so that we could take a closer look at them and to say they’ve impressed me would be an understatement.

Some of the new players have shown a terrific attitude and energy about themselves and have slotted in with consummate ease. They’ve shown a great appetite in training and the trials so far and they’ve carried that into games, so the signs are really positive right now.

We played some nice football here too and I was impressed with how well we took to the task given the amount of new faces there were and how many players featured together for the first-time.

We raced into a five-goal lead in the first-half with Cherelle Albert grabbing a hat-trick and Saisha and Sophie getting on the score sheet too, with some fabulous individual strikes from all those who netted.

Despite not adding to our tally in the second period, we took further control of the game as it wore on and there was very little coming back from Garston in that second 45 minutes.

I also thought we played better in the second period even if we didn’t add any more goals and that was pleasing and on this evidence, we’re going to improve in all departments across all squads this season.

We seemed to have a lot of energy reserves in the tank and a lot more than our opponents on this occasion, which was very good to see and we’ve already been doing work in pre-season to build up their stamina and expect the team to have a big engine to last the distance this term.

There’s bags of potential here and hopefully with the right preparation we can really make this count in our favour in the future.
